Editorial Standards
Fairy Reviews aims to make product research useful, traceable and clear about its limits. Our current coverage focuses on power tools for Canadian homeowners and DIYers. This page explains how we build our buying guides and product-specific articles.
How we research a product
- Confirm the model. We record the exact model number and distinguish bare tools from kits, regional variants and similar generations.
- Start with primary sources. We prefer manufacturer product pages, manuals, warranty documents and official Canadian product information for specifications and included items.
- Match features to a job. We explain what a tool’s design or published specification may mean for a particular task, and identify trade-offs rather than treating a headline number as a universal score.
- Check ownership details. Where documentation is available, we review battery-platform fit, kit contents, local seller information and warranty terms. Similar voltage labels do not prove battery compatibility.
- Link the evidence. Product claims are linked to their sources so readers can verify details. Prices and stock are date-sensitive, so we avoid presenting an undated price as current.
Research is not hands-on testing
A researched guide is not a lab test or a personal field review. We do not claim to have used, measured or compared a product unless the article expressly describes that testing and how it was done. Manufacturer performance statements remain manufacturer claims; they are not independent results. If an article lacks direct testing, we say so.
How we handle comparisons and affiliate links
We compare products by practical criteria such as tool function, size, stated controls, included battery and charger, platform fit, and documented Canadian support. We do not infer performance from voltage labels alone. Affiliate compensation does not determine which models we discuss or the conclusions we draw. When a page contains affiliate links, we identify the relationship near the relevant recommendation and explain it on the Affiliate Disclosure page. We do not guarantee a product outcome, lowest price or savings.
Corrections and updates
Specifications, kits, prices, stock and warranty terms can change. We update articles when we verify a material change. If you spot a model-number or source error, use the comment area on the relevant article when available; comments may be public, so do not include private information.
