The DEWALT DCD800P1 is a brushless 1/2-inch drill/driver sold as a complete starter kit. Its key buying question is whether the included 5Ah battery, charger and bag suit your jobs compared with a tool-only option or another kit.
Included items and model details
DEWALT Canada lists the kit with one DCD800 drill/driver, one DCB205 20V MAX 5Ah battery, a DCB112 charger, kit bag and belt hook. That differs from a bare DCD800 tool listing. Confirm the exact model suffix and what is in the box, especially if the retailer page shows multiple options.
What its published specifications tell you
- Two speed ranges: 0–650 and 0–2,000 rpm, with a variable trigger, give you two mechanical ranges plus trigger control. Follow the manual for the bit and material.
- 6.37-inch head length: DEWALT says this is half an inch shorter than the DCD791 head. This may help in tight access; the battery and bit extend the working envelope.
- Metal 1/2-inch ratcheting chuck: useful if your compatible accessories fit the stated chuck capacity. Check the manual for limits.
- Three-position LED: the manufacturer lists up to 70 lumens and a spotlight mode. Treat it as task lighting, not area lighting.
DEWALT’s Canadian page claims up to 40% more Unit Watts Out than the DCD791B, with a DCB205 battery specified in the comparison. This is a manufacturer claim for that specified comparison, not an independent test or a guarantee for every task.
UWO measures output power; it is not a torque figure. Our guide to Nm vs UWO drill ratings explains why the figures cannot be converted directly and which comparison conditions to check.
Who may find the kit useful?
It is worth comparing if you want a general-purpose drill/driver, a larger included battery than a compact 2Ah starter kit, and a bag in one purchase. The 5Ah pack may add bulk and weight compared with compact batteries, so handling comfort matters for overhead or extended work. If you already own a compatible battery and charger, price the bare DCD800 separately before paying for duplicate equipment.
For household buyers doing mostly small holes and occasional screws, this capacity may exceed what is needed. Compare the complete cash-to-ready cost and weight with battery attached rather than treating a bigger battery as automatically better. Our Canadian kit-cost checklist explains the calculation.
Before buying
- Verify DCD800P1, not DCD800B or another kit.
- Confirm the included DCB205, DCB112, bag and belt hook against the live Canadian page.
- Check current warranty, seller, returns, shipping and taxes.
- Compare tool-only cost if you already have a confirmed compatible battery and charger.
Research-based view: The DCD800P1’s strongest case is its stated combination of a compact drill head with a 5Ah battery-and-charger kit. Suitability depends on whether that battery capacity and package weight fit your work. We have not tested its runtime or drilling performance.
